"With other classic board-games making the transition to iOS devices, its great to see something new taking the center stage."

"Wizard Hex only takes a bit of practice to ease in to, but once youve played a game or six with friends it will become a staple of anyones party-game collection."

"Wizard Hex is a brilliantly original board game … So far I’ve been rewarded handsomely for my purchase with games like Small World and Carcassonne filling my time. Now I can add Wizard Hex, a game playable on both my iPad and iPod Touch, to that list!"

— GameZebo.com (4/5 stars)

"Presentation-wise, Wizard Hex looks absolutely superb on whatever platform you choose to play it on. From my humble iPod Touch 2G to the office iPad, the game looks stunning and interaction with the pieces is smooth and sublime."

"I loaded up the game, started to play, and I am embarrassed to say how much time went by before I took a breath! … The endless strategy and game play abounds and literally no two games will ever be alike. You think you have mastered a strategy when suddenly it fails and you must think quickly and move forward in that game another way."

Imagine a dark tower — where the forces of the world are harnessed by those brave enough and smart enough to control them. A wizard’s power brings these elements together: the wicked wind, rolling water, contracting ice, tumbling earth, lapping fire and sudden lightning. They will compete to establish control for once and for all.

Wizard Hex — a seemingly simple game. Played on a elegantly designed hexagonal board, you choose your element and then challenge yourself against as many as five other players or as few as one smart computer to attempt to be the strongest and to take forever control.

You begin as an Apprentice, learn to be a Journeyman and eventually challenge yourself and others at the Wizard Level. You play not only your own element but the friendly elements found on either side. Together you struggle to Expand to new regions, Transmute from Bronze to Silver to indestructible Gold, and Attack when the opportunity arises. All the time defending and consolidating a winning position. A new strategy game of resource management and area control — Chess or Go for the modern age.

Wizard Hex is such a great strategy game that we are releasing it first as a traditional abstract piece moving game. Next in Wizard Hexs future our goal, when possible, is to populate the game with unique Spells that will allow for a more modern fantasy experience. The portal to this clever creation is just now opening … are you ready?

Pros and cons of Wizard Hex app for iPhone and iPad

Wizard Hex app good for

I need more detailed rules of this game. Präsentation very good, means the graphics. AI I am not quite sure, currently I won every game.
The game is really an eye catcher. Sound and graphics are engaging and create a great atmosphere. The gameplay can be simple but can also get really complex, especially the more players you have. Even though the game itself is quiet simple the winning conditions are not very clear in the manual. Maybe a tutorial that also covers the winning conditions would complete the game experience.
I really love this game! I cant wait for the spells though! Cant be Wizard Hex without magic!
This game sets a really high standard for wonderful 3d rendering of the game pieces. It just feels great to move the discs around. The underlying game logic is pretty fun and I can see myself having a lot of fun playing it with friends. It plays a lot like a complex multi-colored checkers game but with tons of style. Its also pretty simple to learn (like checkers) so you could teach someone to play in a few minutes (though theyll need to play a bit before they know good strategies). If you have friends who like things like this then its a good investment, its a perfect board game for iPad. There IS a tutorial and it explains the game well, its in the rock with the question mark on it, just scroll past the "news". This could probably be cleaned up to make the tutorial easier to find (other reviewers seem to have missed it entirely!) The AI is kind of depressing though. I have beaten it every time I played including my first game! I tried the difficulties but theyre really just variants of the game with less moves, and the AI just keeps losing. Maybe Im just a master strategist but I dont think so. Im used to losing a few times before I win a match on a new strategy games like this, so I have a feeling that in this case its the AI that is just not particularly intelligent or strategic.
I played several matches with my brother and we were addicted right away! We even got our parents involved and they found it very interesting, which shows that its simple rules, but deep strategy is alluring to people of all ages! Have fun everyone! :)
Seriously reboot the app, get some advertising and put in multiplayer along with achievements, new board skins & perhaps new board pieces for certain achievements...instant longevity...youre welcome.

Some bad moments

I like the potential. That being said, it is no where near its potential yet. Pros: concept and design. Cons: no clear instructions ( look online if you want some), crashes every game played thus far, not complete (think about playing Magic CCG without spells.) Ill revisit my opinion when new mechanics are introduced and the stability issues are resolved. At this time it is hard to see past these issues.
I Dont understand why its more then other 1 doller aps. I played it about 3 mins and figuerd id seen all it had to offer. But i never rely like chinese checkers the first time i played it.
I agree with the previous reviewer that this app is released too soon. There are numerous User Interface issues with this app that interferes with actually playing it. I wish I could get a refund.
An interesting premise and graphically polished game marred by some pretty basic flaws. The instructions could be clearer and better laid out. Theyre stuck at the end of document that includes a lot of diverse and largely unnecessary information. The apparently lack of a restart button makes learning strategy slow: once youve made a critical mistake in the opening you have to wait out the whole game to start again. A restart button and better documentation would bring four stars.
Not enough users to find online opponents, which wouldnt bother me if the AI was even the slightest challenge. Even on Master, its a guaranteed win. Its an interesting game, but I havent been challenged on it, so I have to give it 2 stars because its just not fun without a challenge. Ill have to dump the app... But Ill check back for updates to the AI and number of reviews. Theres potential, but not there yet.
If you like board games, youve gotta get this one. Its a completely fresh concept and is really fun. Easy to learn but has a ton of depth. (No its not based on a physical board game - this is it right here.)
